The Prime Directive

When considering introducing any new technology, be it spacecraft, hardware, genetics, or whatever, you must keep in mind that the game is built upon a foundation of real science extrapolated into the 25th century.

If it has no basis in scientific fact, it doesn't belong. The same goes for any new discovery that might break what is already established in the game. That may seem a bit narrow minded, but the idea is to enhance the game we already enjoy, not create a new one. If you want to add anti-gravity because scientists made a tiny frog float in lab, sorry. There is no anti-gravity in the game and so that's that.

Here are some things that, while they're really swell, do not and shall not exist in XXVc:

Artificial Gravity
Psionics
FTL Drives (in whatever form they may take)
Extrasolar Life (aka Aliens)
Time Travel
Gennies that break the "Square-Cube Law"
Gennies with brains considerably smaller than humans', that are as smart (or smarter) than humans. In other words, no rats teaching each other sign language or cats beating humans at chess
Blasters, light sabers, or other "magic" weapons
Teleportation
Ship's scanners that can reveal what is inside another space craft. More on this later.
Free-floating holograms! My personal pet peeve. This includes "flashlight" holograms like Cortana from the Halo video game series.

That's all I can think of for now. Feel free to throw in if you have anything in mind.

Resolving the Oberon Sidhe

As per No Humans Allowed (if they appear elsewhere, I'm unaware of it) the Sidhe have a weak form of telekinesis. That breaks the "hard sci-fi" rule of no psionics. This rule should not and will not be broken here. It's sloppy writing and a bad idea on top of it. The same goes for anything else that breaks the XXVc Prime Directive©.

I've given this some thought before and concluded that what the Sidhe were created to do, besides being preternaturally intelligent, is better utilize mind powered gadgets.

I figure this could be expanded to any number of technological devices, including rocketships. So, basically remote piloting, but on a grand scale. This is just off the top of my head and I never really had cause to go any further with this (until now) so it's definitely up for discussion.

Have at it.

Welcome to the Sanctuary III

This is the base for the Outer Worlds Netbook project. We'll use this space to discuss content and who wants to do what.

Everyone who wants to participate should say so here. I'll add your email addresses to the Outer Worlds Project Google doc so you can contribute directly to the netbook. Just off the top of my head, the content can break down thusly:

Jupiter and its moons and rings
Saturn and its moons (except for Titan) and rings
Titan
The rest of the outer worlds (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto)
The Political Climate
Inhabitants
New Technology
New Rocketships
Saturnian Biotech (I predict this is going to be a bitch)
New NPCs
Maps (another bitch)

...and probably a ton of other stuff. This is all up for discussion, of course. I'm just spitballing.
